Four years after producing the revolutionary suite of icons for all of the Office 2003 applications, we were once again contracted to produce the icons for Microsoft's Office 2007 suite. To be successful, we selected colors that were clean, professional and sometimes translucent, while all the time giving a soft, smooth appearance. As always in toolbar icons, we evaluated color, contrast, and shape weights to make sure one icon did not visually overpower others in the toolbars. In particular, the newly designed 32x32 icons were designed with softer colors and contours and with the material quality of a satin or glass-like finish. Plastic-like diffused light reflections on opaque surfaces was also implemented.
The goal we achieved was to create uniformity with (the then yet to be released) Windows Vista while remaining standardized with Windows XP and Office 2003. We centered on the creation of a constant harmonious blend, encapsulating all the years of Microsoft's applications and operating systems. The Microsoft Office 2007 suite once again showcased the abilities of our company to develop a project with subtlety and class while reinforcing a bold statement of corporate branding. Over half a billion users worldwide use the new Office 2007 applications daily.
