Four years after producing the revolutionary suite of icons for Office 2003, we were again called on by Microsoft. This time it was to create custom Office 2007 icons.
Microsoft envisioned a more modern, clean and sophisticated icon appeal. To meet this vision, we selected icon colors that were less saturated than their 2003 predecessors. We also gave real world textures to the icons such as glass, plastic, satin, and metal like finishes. This approach allowed greater visual uniformity with the yet to be released Windows Vista, while still maintaining visual uniformity with the Windows XP icons.
The result was a complete and harmonious suite of icons that worked well across multiple operating systems and applications. At last count, over half a billion people were using the Office 2007 suite. It’s a standard we’re proud of.
